About us
SAFE is a Scottish charity helping serving soldiers and people leaving the Armed Forces into employment.
Who we are
SAFE is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) on 23 November 2020 under charity number SC050592. We are based at Gayfield in Edinburgh and our main operating area is the City of Edinburgh.
We are run entirely by volunteers. We have no paid staff, which means the money we raise goes directly into our charitable work and the running of the charity.
What we do
SAFE is established to support serving soldiers and those leaving the Armed Forces into employment. We do this by providing or funding training courses that improve people's skills and employability and give them the opportunity to move into work when they complete their course.
Our main activities are developing our premises and developing sources of income, so that the charity is sustainable for the long term. The SAFE Lottery is a central part of that plan. Externally, we work with community groups and military veterans.
Our work supports a wider aim of improving public safety, alongside a more focused aim of supporting military veterans, their families and the bereaved immediate relatives of veterans.
Who we help
- Serving soldiers preparing for life after the Forces
- People who have recently left the Armed Forces
- Military veterans looking for work or new skills
- The families of veterans
- The bereaved immediate relatives of veterans
Our charitable purposes
As registered with OSCR, our purposes are:
- the prevention or relief of poverty
- the advancement of education
- the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage
Our constitution allows us to relieve people in need because of disability or disadvantage resulting from unemployment, youth, age, financial hardship or ill-health, or because they are offenders, ex-offenders or at risk of offending; to prevent and relieve poverty through education, training, rehabilitation, support, employment and personal development opportunities; and to provide opportunities and facilities for training and experience of all kinds to help people decide upon, qualify for or obtain a job, career or profession.
